As a mum to two beautiful children, it was during a challenging journey of bringing them into the world that I first discovered the power of Pilates. At the time, I was a primary school teacher and decided to try Pilates to focus on something new and help take my mind off a tough time.
My husband had been practising Pilates due to lower-back trouble and suggested I try it. At first, I was sceptical, I thought it would be too easy, but I soon discovered its benefits for my body. I was hooked and never looked back.
I had always been active, working at a gym from a young age and trying every exercise class under the sun. But despite being older and having two children, Pilates helped me become the strongest I had ever been. It improved my flexibility, functional movement, and overall body awareness, and I performed better in the other forms of exercise I still enjoyed.
While on maternity leave and during the start of the pandemic, I decided to train to become a Level 3 Mat Pilates instructor. I wanted to understand and learn more about Pilates and inspire more people to discover its fantastic benefits on both the body and mind.
And so Pilates 39 was born in November 2020, during another mini Covid lockdown (The 39 in Pilates39 comes from simply adding the birthdays of my two children together). Since launching my virtual platform and opening my studio, I’ve helped hundreds of people discover the power of Pilates, and I can’t wait to help you too.
